February Tarpon Fishing Rocks!
Tarpon Fishing Key West
February 24th 2018 – The last week was a good one and full of lots of great things, such as wind and tarpon here in Key West. Winds were out of the East South East and blowing pretty hard last week at 20-25. We were super Busy tarpon fishing here at Dream Catcher Charters as the fish were here, they were hungry and folks were unable to get offshore deep sea fishing due to the high winds so they went out back with us.
The “Gulf fish” as I call them were here in huge numbers last month and our tarpon fishing anglers were able to compound on it with our fishing guides. I dont see a lot of changes in the fishing for tarpon here in Key West except in the weather as we look toward the last week in February and into March. A small cool front will come through our area at the end of next week. Between now and then I expect our Key West tarpon fishing to get even hotter as the winds lay down and the fish stick around.
We are catching most of our tarpon on live bait during this session of fish. With dirtier water due to the winds the live baits work well. I am looking forward to fishing in the lighter winds next week as thew waters clean up and the bite gets solid. March is usually a good time to get into early season big tarpon, I don’t see it changing this year. Check out our Key West fishing seasons calendar to see what else might be happening for you while you visit Key West.
