Tarpon Season? Well, Almost

Tarpon

We catch tarpon of all sizes all year long here in Key West at Dream Catcher Charters.

March 23rd 2017 – The Tarpon fishing report is hit or miss at best. Last week was a pretty good cold front by March standards and we were in some sub 70 temps for a few days that really dropped our impressive 75 and 80 degree water temp stretch to the lower to mid 60s here in the Key West backcountry waters where we catch most of our tarpon.

The tarpon are around….. Yes and there are quite a few of them. We are able to jump a few here and there first thing in the morning and find them throughout the day here and there but the bite is not super solid just yet. They are eating live baits and artificial but a little to deep for the fly fisherman just yet.

My tarpon fishing forecast is that we will have this blow coming up tomorrow the 24th and that will establish a bit of a high pressure over our area and consistent Easterly breezes bringing up our humidity and water temps making it “Tarpon Fishing Time”. Just in time for April and the families that come here for spring break.

Tarpon fishing charters are easy. We sue our 24 ft bay boats that can accommodate up to 4 anglers maximum for 4 and 6 hour trips. Travel times are short as the tarpon are not too far away. Our Tarpon fishing rates are very affordable starting at 450.00 for 2 anglers. April and May are great times for tarpon fishing here in Key West.
